Eyebrows on Fleek: Why We Love Anastasia Beverly Hills

"Weak eyebrows = weak presentation. It's like having a bad handshake, but worse because it's right on your face"
- Lena Dunham
I'm no stranger to the thick eyebrow craze- I've been coloring in my eyebrows and attempting to perfect the look for about three years now. I started off with dark brown eyeliner (no, that's not a typo) and moved my way up the food chain into dark powders (messy) and tinted wax (sticky). I was curious about all the hype swirling around about Anastasia Beverly Hills (ABH) so I decided to do a bit of research. Currently at Sephora.com, the ABH brand boasts some of the highest rated products on the website. Now we know why; this brand is in a class of it's own.
When trying this brand for the first time I wanted to work with something I'm comfortable with, so I stuck with the pencil-like brow definer. My eyebrows are relatively thick, but after years of over plucking (can I get a hey-o to highschool years) I have some bare spots that require filling in. Personally, I'm just so used to the control of a pencil in hand that it's a tool I can just work well with... That being said, their eyebrow pomade is has had beauty gurus fawning. It comes in a small glass container and when used with a brush can even out and thicken any brow. Although I haven't tried it, I've been told that after a few test applications, it's a must-try.
Anyway, here's what we think of the brow definer:
What we tried:
ABH Brow Definer in Soft Brown
What is it:
As mentioned, it's a pencil-like retractable stick, except the tip is super unique and completely unlike a pencil. It's triangular shaped, so it is designed specifically to give you a precise outline and the ability to fill in with one motion. On the opposite end is a custom spooley with of course is used for grooming. This will also help to blend the color into your natural brow.
Initial thoughts:
The texture is creamy and rich, like butter, not at all waxy or clumpy. The application was very simple, but as it turns out not exactly as noted. Perhaps it's because I'm a first timer for this product, but it is not in fact a "one fluid motion" product- I found that in order to get a natural look I First created my line below my eyebrows and had to use gentle and light strokes to fill it... sort of like applying mascara.
That being said, after a few too many swipes (my fault - not the brow definer), removing a bit of it, blending and then adding a light highlight below my brows to make them pop - they have never looked better. I would say this is a definite staple to have for anyone wanting a fuller or more prominent brow, without them looking abnormal.
Notables:
I am impressed with the ingredients- generally I try to avoid parabens or sulfates and this product is formulated without them. And of course, I would never buy products tested on animals, and the ABH line is completely cruelty-free.
Our recommendation:
Buy a shade lighter than you expect! Even though I have blond hair, I have dark brown eyebrows... So that's the color I normally go for. Thinking that this product would be rich, I purchased the pigment light brown for this review... come to find out I probably could have even gone a shade lighter to taupe. Another thing to keep in mind: the brow definer is very smooth and easy to apply, so you don't need to use much for a big impact.
